You dittoheads sincerely believe that today's southern dominated Republican Party is still the "Party of Lincoln.". However, the Party of Lincoln was based in the North in states like Massachusetts, not the South in states like Mississippi. And it was not conservative. It was labeled the "Radical Republican Party" by stupid southerners of the era. Lincoln in fact passed the first income tax.|||If Lincoln were around today, they'd call him a liberal, a socialist and a commie. If Theodore Roosevelt were around today, based on what they said about his third-term run in 1912, they'd say crazy stuff about him, too. And if Ronald Reagan were around today, they'd point out how much he raised taxes as Governor of California and how he instituted that prison-furlough program (the one Daddy Bush chose to ignore in his '88 run against Dukakis).





The Republicans are still looking for the Reagan they thought they had, rather than the one they actually had. Face it, if George W. Bush wasn't "conservative enough" for them, then they'll never find their ideal President. Thank God.|||In 1862 the Republican Party was splintered into three very different groups...the radicals (abolitionists) the conservatives, and the moderates (which Lincoln had been originally, but later turned towards the radical side). The conservatives and moderates had many similarities to the Whig party which dominated the South and the western territories. I suggest you do your homework before yapping about something you apparently know nothing about.|||It is humerous that you mention the People's Commonwealth of Marxichusetts and Lincoln in the same sentence. The Socialist Republic of Massachusetts shares NOTHING in common with what it once was. These ideas the democrats have have DESTROYED those cities, now they want to impose them on all of AMERICA! The State rights we have now are much BETTER than what the Obama / Pelosi want to change them to be!|||Lincoln's goal was never to free slaves. It was the preservation of the union. In fact, at the time he signed it, the Emancipation Proclamation was considered useless due to the secession of the southern states.|||He also suspended Habeus Corpus, and had detractors arrested, and silenced...remind you of anyone?|||Lincoln didn't free the slaves, he simply preserved the union.
