How exactly did president Aberham Lincoln end slavery? and how did he get America out of the civil war?

I have to write a long paper for my History class. I just need a little information to get me started because I know very little on the success of Lincoln. A few details would help, I will do the rest. Thank You.|||He ended the Civil War by winning the war and ultimately forcing the surrender of Robert E. Lee and the Confederate Army in Appomattox, Va.

He ended slavery through the Emancipation Proclamation. Initially he was not prepared to end slavery, but issued the proclamation as a means to undercut the slave-based economy of the Confederacy.|||Abraham Lincoln didn't actually "end slavery" himself. It is the 13th amendment (adopted in 1865 after the end of the war) that declares slavery illegal. Lincoln's famous emancipation proclamation actually did nothing in the way of freeing the slaves. After he issued the address in 1863, slaves in slave states that remained loyal to the union (Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Missouri) were still enslaved. The Confederate government ignored the proclamation as they had seceded from the Union. So the Emancipation Proclamation didn't free anyone.

Since the 13th amendment ended slavery, it's really the congress, and not Lincoln himself, that ended slavery.

And Lincoln ended the war by simply beating the south to a pulp.|||Lincoln did NOT end slavery. He simply issued a declaration that the slaves belonging to a foreign country (the Confederate States) were to be free men.

This was supposed to apply to people who were NOT under his jurisdiction. At the same time this declaration DID NOT free the slaves which belonged to US citizens in the "loyal" states.

Moreover this declaration did not affect world slave trade- especially the slave trade in Africa- where over 95% of the slaves were sent to the markets in Algiers, Khartoum and Zanzibar- and from there to Arabia and Turkey

Lincoln "took the US out of the civil war" by winning it- especially die to the actions of general Sherman who anihilated the interior of the Confederate States while Grant kept the CS troops pinned on the front.

However, considering the 10 to 1 advantage in forces, it is surprising (and a measure of the "competences" of their generals) that it took the US 4 years to win
