How did Lincoln's assassination effect the whole country?

I'm writing a research paper about how Lincoln's assassination was harmful to the whole country. I already am writing about how Lincoln would have done the Reconstruction a lot better than Johnson did, but I need some more ideas. Any and all are welcome!

Thanks :)|||Well I am sure it affected the whole country in an emotional sense, and history is taught what a great guy Lincoln was. But putting aside all the propaganda that we were taught in school, Lincoln pretended to care about the slaves to get re-elected, but in reality could have cared less about the blacks and only started the Civil War to keep the south from breaking away from the USA. There is a great deal deal of documentation showing that Lincoln felt that blacks and whites could never co-exist in th same society on an equal basis. Old Abe was not the guy we were taught that he was.|||Uhhhh...everyone felt bad for a while...
