How did Lincoln and Douglas deal with dissent in wartime?

I have to compare (and contrast) the methods and ways these two civil war leaders dealed with dissent during the civil war, Ive only been able to find a little about lincoln and it had something to do with the Habeas Corpus.|||Lincoln dealt with dissenters depending on the dissenters perceived power. he had some jailed. he took over the Maryland legislature by force to keep that state from seceding and thereby isolating the capitol. I believe he suspended habeas corpus, during wartime the president has extra-ordinary powers.

Stephen Douglas died in 1862 and was not a leader during the war. Did you mean Jefferson Davis?
