How to adjust the timing on a Lincoln Towncar?

I have a 92 lincoln towncar and the timing is off how do adjust? I'm lookin for details here people not just use a timing gun. Plus i dun have a timing gun so an answer that doesnt involve one would be preferable.|||If your car has a distributor you need to find out which way it rotates, you will want to turn it into (against) that direction(a bit) after you have loosened the hold down clamp. In order to find your max. advance, pick the steepest hill you can and drive up the hill with the gas 3/4 to the floor, listen for a rattling noise, that is too much, back it off a bit so it does not rattle, if you want to switch to premium gas now is the time, good luck, have fun.|||Just loosen the distributer and turn it till you think you got it. :P If it busts off as soon as you hit the key its close enough.
