What causes my 1992 Lincoln to die when I come to a stop?

My 1992 Lincoln dies whenever I come to a stop. What may be causing this?|||need more info does it jump or run rough?|||Because it's almost as old as I am.|||maybe its the fuel pump.|||plugged fuel filter?

carborator problems?

Electrical / altenator issues?

could be alot of things.

Take it a shop and have them check it out.|||too low of an idle speed, throttle positioner is out of whack allowing the engine to run too slowly|||Yeah more information would be helpful... I could answer the truck that you hit w/ it caused it to die.

But really if it's just stalling it could be you have a vaccuum leak and that's causing the engine not to pull enough gas into the cylenders. because the power brake assist is straining the engine under load at idle. I'd check vaccuum, then maybe try swapping your fuel filter out. your engine could also be starving for gas.|||Check a few things for me first. Does it seem to not want to go over 35-45mph? And also check the throttle opening (butterfly) When you accelerate, the butterfly opens letting more air mix with gas. When you are at idle it is fully closed accept for a tiny bit of air getting past the butterfly plate. The computer knows how much gas to give it at idle, unless the bottom of the butterfly is mucked up with a bead of carbon at the bottom. In this scenario, the car's computer is giving the same amount of gas put not air-carbon buildup blocking air. AKA----flooded engine. Take off the intake hose and spray carb cleaner on a rag and wipe it clean at the bottom of the butterfly opening(make sure the car is off) while doing this. If thats not it it could be the catalytic converter is plugged if it has issues trying to go over 35-45mph.

Cheers,

Bob|||check your fuel filter. It is probably plugged.
