How did Lincoln and Buchanan differ on the issue of secession?

A. Buchanan thought Southern states should secede -- Lincoln did not.

B. Buchanan thought that the government of the United States did not have the right or the power to use force to prevent secession -- Lincoln argued that no state could legally secede.

C. Buchanan tried to solve the problem by calling a "peace conference" -- Lincoln refused to send representatives.

D. Buchanan tried to send military forces to recapture the South -- Lincoln immediately, on becoming president, ordered a blockade of the South.|||D
